For better or worse, the end of the year tends to be a whirlwind. There’s a flurry of activity – parties, family gatherings, gift exchanges, year-end deadlines, and moments of pure magic with our loved ones! All of this adds up quickly, and let’s face it, it can get a little… well, interesting.
With so much going on, it’s easy to feel a healthy mix of joy and overwhelm. That’s why we wanted to share some reflections we hope will inspire more balance and intentionality.
Relationship Binging: Navigating the Holiday Social Season
The holidays often mean more engagement with people we care about. It’s a time for family, friends, and colleagues, and while these connections can bring joy, they can also be tiring.
Maybe it’s the brother you haven’t spoken to in months, the co-worker who pushes your buttons, or the mother-in-law who seems to have an endless supply of unsolicited advice. As you head into the season, it might be helpful to keep the following thoughts in mind:
- Resist the urge to avoid challenging people. It can be tempting to retreat into your own space when things feel tense with others. However, distance and cut-offs usually do more harm than good in the long run.
- Stay in the kitchen. When tension mounts, it’s tempting to get away from the situation. It’s uncomfortable. What would happen, though, if you worked to stay connected in some way, but not be engulfed in the tension? Sometimes just being present and accounted for goes a long way.
- Get curious about them. Sometimes the best way to manage awkward interactions is by asking questions and getting interested. People love to talk about themselves, and you might uncover a shared interest or perspective that lightens the mood. Curiosity can also help take the pressure off you, shifting the focus from tension to connection.
- Push yourself just a little. You don’t have to jump into every social engagement headfirst. But sometimes the payoff of reaching out to someone – even just a little – can be more rewarding than you might expect. During a season focused on connection, never underestimate the importance of being present.
Healthy Boundaries Anyone?
Did 2024 feel like a blur – full of rushing from one task to the next with little time to pause? As the year winds down, we often find ourselves speeding up, trying to squeeze in as much as possible before the ball drops. But as you think about the new year, ask yourself: Is it worth it? Is the hustle really giving you the return you’re hoping for?
It’s not always easy to set boundaries. It is especially difficult if you’re an over-functioner – the kind of person who takes on more than they should, because they believe it’s easier to just do it themselves. But here’s the thing, saying “no” can be a form of self-care. It allows you to reclaim your time, energy, and focus.
Ask yourself right now: What am I not going to do during this season or even next year? Take some pressure off yourself by making decisions about what no longer serves you. It’s not about being selfish; it’s about being smart with your resources.
We Are Wishing You A 2025 With More Intention!
What if, starting now, you gave yourself permission to be more you in 2025? Not in a selfish or narcissistic way, but in a way that honors your own needs, values, and desires. What would happen if, instead of reacting to everything and everyone around you, you paused and asked yourself:
- What really matters to me?
- What are my core values?
- What are my “non-negotiables” in life?
Living intentionally – aligning your actions with your values – doesn’t always mean making huge life changes. Sometimes it’s just a matter of saying, “I’ll pass on that,” or “This is what I really need right now.” The more you live with intention, the more you will find yourself living with purpose and peacefulness.
So, as you navigate the holiday season and prepare for the year ahead, take a moment to pause. Reflect on what you need to let go of, what you want to invite in, and how you can show up more fully as yourself. And most importantly, stay open to all the joy, love, and pure magic surrounding you this season!
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year to you, your family, and friends.
